A new water treatment plant for a local water utility has recently been completed in Ukraine. As part of the project, an advanced system of ESMIL x Probig® chain scrapers was installed, developed through the cooperation of both companies.
The project was driven by the condition of the existing infrastructure, which had not been modernized for over 50 years. The previously used technologies no longer met current drinking water quality standards, making a comprehensive upgrade of the facility necessary.
The new plant has been designed with a capacity of 100,000 m³/day and includes the full treatment process, from raw water intake to the supply of treated drinking water to consumers.
As part of the process line, six ESMIL x Probig® chain scrapers were installed in rectangular grit chambers. The units play a key role in the mechanical treatment stage, ensuring continuous and effective removal of settled solids from the bottom. This supports stable and uninterrupted operation of the entire system.
ESMIL x Probig® chain scrapers are increasingly selected for water and wastewater facilities due to:
- efficient removal of bottom sludge and floating contaminants
- up to ten times longer service life compared to metal systems
- lightweight and safe design
- low maintenance requirements
- easy integration with existing infrastructure
The entire scraper system is ATEX-certified and compliant with API 421, confirming its suitability for operation in demanding environments, including heavy industry applications.

The solution has been positively evaluated by plant operators, who highlight stable operation, high build quality, and good alignment with the technological requirements of the water treatment process.
