The National Water Strategy of Jordan 2023–2040 plans to increase the capacity of wastewater treatment plants from 600,000 to 800,000 m³/day. The plan includes both the expansion and modernization of existing facilities, as well as the construction of new ones. One such project is the newly developing Ain Al-Basha treatment plant, which is set to replace the current Balqa treatment plant in the Baqaa area.

Since this is a key government project, the General Contractor faced the challenge of selecting a suitable wastewater treatment technology provider that would meet the high and comprehensive requirements of the investment. The choice fell on Esmil Group.

This is our first project carried out in Jordan – the decision to choose Esmil’s solutions was a result of the good reputation we have earned in other Middle Eastern markets thanks to the high quality of our equipment.

Design Assumptions

The role of Esmil Group involved the proper selection and production of equipment to be installed in a channel measuring 1500 mm in width and 1300 mm in depth. Based on the design requirements provided by the Client, Esmil Group specialists proposed the RSK 1412 step screen, adapted to operate at a maximum flow rate of 2000 m³/h. This device ensures effective preliminary filtration, minimizing the risk of clogging technological components in the subsequent stages of wastewater treatment.

In addition to the screen, the order also included two SGSM-type penstocks, which will provide effective flow regulation and enable full control over the treatment process.

Main Advantages of ESMIL Step Screens

  • High separation efficiency – thanks to the mechanism that creates a “mat” of screenings, the screens effectively retain both large debris and fine fibrous particles.
  • Low operating costs – no need for water flushing or brushes significantly reduces media consumption and maintenance frequency (OPEX up to 6 times lower than, for example, perforated screens).
  • Minimal maintenance required – the screens need only 1–2 hours of service per week, reducing staff workload and simplifying operation.
  • Durability and resistance – made from AISI 316L stainless steel and with no moving chains, the device operates reliably for many years, even in the presence of sand and fats.
  • Compact size and easy installation – high throughput allows for smaller devices to be used in narrower channels, lowering capital expenditure (CAPEX).

Quality Inspection Prior to Shipment – Ensuring Compliance with International Standards

Due to the high-quality requirements defined for the project, all Esmil devices underwent rigorous pre-shipment inspection. The inspection was carried out by Bureau Veritas, which thoroughly verified the compliance of the equipment with applicable standards regarding workmanship quality, safety, and technical conformity. The devices successfully passed the full verification process, obtaining official certificates of compliance with international standards, confirming the high quality of solutions offered by Esmil Group.

Summary

The selection of Esmil’s equipment for the newly developing Ain Al-Basha wastewater treatment plant is further proof of our company’s growing presence and success in the Middle Eastern market. All devices underwent thorough quality control, confirming their reliability and compliance with international standards. The delivered solutions fully meet the client’s requirements and will soon begin to effectively support the operation of the treatment plant.
