From 27 to 31 of March 2018 in Sochi, Russia the 22nd International Scientific and Practical Conference “Technologies and equipment for the water industry” was held by the ESMIL Industrial Group.
After a one and a half year break, the Conference gathered more than 150 wastewater treatment professionals from the CIS and Europe. Representatives of municipal and industrial WWTP, engineering companies and design organizations, equipment manufacturers, industry associations and the mass media were among the participants. The partners of the Conference were Grundfos Ltd – a leading pumping equipment manufacturer in RF, as well as the company “Sistemy Plastikovykh Truboprovodov”.
Over the years, the ESMIL Conference has proven itself as a platform where WWT professionals can share their experience, represent new technological solutions, discuss interesting practical cases and establish professional contacts. The Conference programme is traditionally reached in interesting reports. This year during plenary sessions there was made more than 35 presentations on current topics.
The greatest interest among participants was the reports which were directly connected to the experience of different programmes and new technologies implementation at the water and wastewater treatment facilities, as well as legislative issues, namely:
- “Transition to technological rationing: “game rules” are being formed” – Elena Sobolevskaia, deputy executive director of the RAVV;
- “Reconstruction and modernization of WWTP in Tomsk. Retrospective and strategic plans” – Vladimir Kiselev, chief engineer of GOS Ltd;
- “Belarusian practice of construction of efficient, but affordable wastewater treatment facilities” – Eduard Brazovsky, Director of LOSBEL Ltd;
- “Baikal water – systemic problems and comprehensive solutions” – Evgenii Pupyrev, Sc.D. in Technology, prof., President of the MRSP, chairman of ETS RAVV;
- “Sewage sludge as “not quite waste”. Problems of normative acts interpretation” – Georgiy Samburskii, scientific secretary of ETS RAVV.
The conference was attended by leading equipment and technologies manufacturers in wastewater treatment. Their presentations contained a large number of practical examples of implementation with evaluation of project achievements and economic effects. Among the speakers were representatives of such companies as Grundfos, PENETRON-Russia, Alfa Laval, Wilo, SEEPEX, Endress+Hauser, Gidromashservis, Xylem, Atlas Copco, BASF and others.

Representatives of the ESMIL Industrial Group gave a brief introduction about our production line development over the last one and a half year, and also raised an issue of the strategic partnership importance between Municipal WWTP and equipment manufacturers. On the example of three ESMIL long-term clients, practical issues of such partnership were considered and its successfulness was shown.
The tone of the discussion was set by the Sambursky presentation, which was dedicated to the legal aspects faced by operating organizations working in the field of water supply and wastewater treatment, while utilizing and treating sludge generated in water treatment processes. Pupyrev, Samburskii and Aliev (ETS RAVV), Pesin, Litostansky, Voloshin (ESMIL Industrial Group), representatives of Municipal WWTP in Dzerzhinsk, Nizhny Novgorod region, GMS group of companies, MIRRIKO group of companies and other participants of the roundtable took part. During the discussion it was noted that the existing legal framework in RF concerning sewage sludge utilization requires immediate improvement in terms of numerous normative and legal acts harmonization in this field as well as making amendments to relevant documents aimed to remove numerous bureaucratic barriers and obstacles when treating sludge. All roundtable meeting participants noted the usefulness of such conversation and the relevance of the raised issues. At the participants request, the organizers are considering to hold such an event within the EKVATEK exhibition.
As a part of the informal programme, the Conference participants visited and strolled along the SkyPark – one of the longest pedestrian suspended bridges in the world, and the most desperate brave souls experienced breathtaking attractions from the bungee-jumping creator.
The Conference participants noted the unique atmosphere at the ESMIL Conference, which allows not only to fruitfully work during plenary sections, but also to have a rest in the circle of close friends.
