Experts of the Esmil Group always strive to improve the operation of the supplied equipment and perceive new non-standard projects as challenges, which allows to offer unique and even more effective solutions for wastewater treatment to water and sanitation institutions. One of these challenges was the delivery of an aeration system with a lifting arrangement, which is installed in aeration tanks without emptying them and stopping the operation of the wastewater treatment facilities.
On May 21, 2021, the installation and commissioning of the aeration system at the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Törökbálint, Hungary, was successfully completed. The Esmil aeration system with a lifting arrangement including 420 meters of APKV tubular air diffusers was installed in three aeration tanks connected in series with each other.
The hydraulic load on the sewage treatment facilities is approximately 3000 m3 per day. The technology for processing incoming wastewater provides constant aeration while maintaining the concentration of dissolved oxygen at the level of 2 mg/l, with the depth of the aeration tanks of 5.5 m.
The installation of the aeration system was commissioned to the Esmil Group after winning a tender organized by the water and sanitation institution. In this project, our experts had to solve several difficult tasks. The main requirement of the customer was the installation of the aeration system without emptying the aeration tanks and stopping the operation of the wastewater treatment facilities. Our engineers have developed an aeration system consisting of 11 modules with a different number of air diffusers and a system for supplying air to the distribution manifolds using flexible hoses and also solved the issues of attaching the modules to existing frames and ensuring the possibility of their immersion and lifting from aeration tanks filled with wastewater.
The performed installation of the aeration system included the following works:
- Successive (in each of the three aeration tanks) dismantling of the existing aeration system (lifting the aeration modules, disconnecting them from flexible hoses, dismantling the air diffusers, cleaning the mounting frames),
- Subsequent installation of Esmil tubular air diffusers (preparation of frames for air diffusers fastening, installation of support modules for air diffusers fastening, installation of air diffusers and installation of a system for lifting assembled aeration modules, connecting flexible hoses) and putting the system into operation.
All works were carried out without emptying the aeration tanks in the mode of continuous operation of the biological wastewater treatment system.
The choice of Esmil tubular air diffusers is determined by a number of unique advantages of this type of equipment: the best air transfer characteristics among all other solutions, high reliability, energy savings compared to other aeration systems, and no requirements of maintenance over a long period of operation.
We congratulate our customer ÉTV Kft. on the implementation of this project, and we thank the employees of the water and sanitation institution for their active participation in all stages of the modernization of aeration tanks! We also express our gratitude to the partner company PASA SPECIÁL Kft., which carried out the unique work of cleaning aeration tanks with the help of divers, and we thank our long-term and reliable partner MATPAL Kft. for highly professional work at all stages of installation of the Esmil aeration system!
The possibility of ordering the aeration system with a lifting arrangement based on Esmil tubular air diffusers is a progressive solution for our customers, which allows us to modernize aeration tanks without emptying them and, consequently, avoiding interruptions in the operation of the wastewater treatment facilities. This method of installation allows not only to install of aerators by immersing them, but also, if necessary, greatly facilitates the maintenance works, i.e. the frame with air diffusers may be lifted easily and quickly to inspect the equipment without pumping out wastewater from the concrete tank, while keeping continuity of the wastewater treatment process is maintained.
