In July 2019, ESMIL PRODEKO-EŁK Sp.zo.o. delivered, installed and launched a KP 1018 type catenary screen at the pumping station on Przemysłowa St. in the city of Augustów as part of the equipment modernization plan.

The catenary screen installed in the building of the pumping station is distinguished by its unique design, high treatment efficiency and extreme resistance to mechanical damage compared to other screen types (i.e. rake or bar screens). This screen is a reliable solution for rough mechanical wastewater treatment.

After a year of operation, the employees of MWiK Sp. z o.o. in Augustów noticed that the installed catenary screen was more efficient than the previous filtering facility in coping with the preliminary treatment of the wastewater entering the station from large solid contaminants. Thanks to its application, the failure rate of the pumping station has decreased and its technological functionality has increased. Failures associated with the clogging of pumps have ceased to occur. After such preliminary treatment, the wastewater is then pumped to the wastewater treatment plant.

Compared to other mechanical screens, catenary screens are distinguished by their very high reliability and effective treatment of wastewater from coarse contaminants, even at very large volumes of wastewater. The absence of gears in the lower part of the screen and the special design of the loosely fixed chain ensure the smooth operation of the catenary screen, even when a large amount of dirt is removed from the channel. The chains with installed cleaning scrapers are specially designed for this purpose. They do not require maintenance and are intended for many-years work without the need for replacement. On the other hand, the screen body is made of stainless steel with a large safety factor, taking into account high hydraulic loads.

It is also worth mentioning that the catenary screen installed and operated at present in Augustów in the building of the pumping station at Przemysłowa St. was awarded the Grand Prix statuette in 2019 at the XXVII International WOD-KAN Fair in Bydgoszcz.
