At the end of 2020, the Esmil equipment was installed and commissioned at the wastewater treatment plant in Chervonograd, Lviv region. Esmil Group acted as a process equipment supplier – two radial scrapers IRPO-20, two suction scrapers IRVO-20 and tube air diffusers for biological wastewater treatment.
Wastewater treatment plants in Chervonograd were built in the 70-ies and, as many treatment plants in Ukrainian cities, were in dire need of reconstruction. The nominal capacity of a water services company is 35,000 m3/day, while almost 10,000 m3 of wastewater comes for treatment daily in the city with 80,000 residents. In 2018, the company, supported by the local authorities, won a grant under the Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014–2020, resulting in the reconstruction of wastewater treatment facilities. The cost of reconstruction was about 600,000 euros, of which 540,000 came from the European Union.
As part of the reconstruction, it was planned to reconstruct the drainage collector, completely modernize the biological wastewater treatment stage and replace the sludge dewatering equipment. ESMIL Group was selected as the main supplier of process equipment for biological wastewater treatment.
To improve the biological treatment quality, Esmil Tube Air Diffusers were mounted in two aeration tanks. This type of equipment differs from other aeration systems by its high efficiency with minimal operating costs. Air bubbles, 2-3 mm in diameter, effectively saturate the wastewater with oxygen, it is utterly important for the proper functioning of microorganisms and bacteria used in biological treatment; low pressure losses result in a considerable reduction of energy costs, equal 50-90% of total electricity consumption by the water services company. Also, Esmil Tube Air Diffusers are easily mounted and don’t need servicing (flushing) by the maintenance personnel.
Also, at the biological treatment stage, the equipment in the primary and secondary radial clarifiers was replaced. Instead of morally and physically obsolete models, the latest models of stainless scrapers and suction scrapers were installed. Equipment for clarifiers, manufactured by ESMIL, is characterized by high efficiency and reliability, it is used not only in Ukraine but also in the EU and Great Britain. Scrapers and suction scrapers are made of stainless steel AISI 304, their driven trolleys are equipped with wear-resistant polyurethane coated wheels, their mechanisms are equipped with a convenient service platform with handrails. The special design of a scraper mechanism allows for effective bottom cleaning in primary clarifiers, while the patented “clean bottom” technology of suction scrapers cleans the bottom of secondary clarifiers.
Esmil scrapers and suction scrapers are easy to install and quickly put into operation. High-quality materials and high-precision manufacturing ensure an increased safety margin and a high service life of equipment components, auxiliary assemblies facilitate activities of the maintenance personnel, a high automation level provides effective complex operation.
Reconstruction of wastewater treatment facilities will significantly improve the treatment of wastewater, discharged into the transboundary river Zapadny Bug, as well as eliminate unpleasant odor in settlements near the water services company.
