More than two years ago, as part of an EU project for the modernization of water and wastewater infrastructure, Esmil Group supplied a mechanical treatment system based on RSK step screen to the treatment plant in Mónosbél, a town located in the picturesque Bükk National Park.
Project Overview
The investment was carried out under the project “Modernization of the wastewater treatment plant of the agglomeration centered in Mónosbél”, financed by the EU Cohesion Programme in Hungary.
Main objectives of the modernization:
- increase of biological capacity to 2,900 PE,
- increase of hydraulic capacity to 300 m³/d.
The general contractor was Pureco Kft., which chose to equip the facility with ESMIL-manufactured mechanical wastewater treatment equipment.
ESMIL Equipment delivered under the project
The implementation was carried out by our Hungarian subsidiary Ekoszvít Center Kft. As part of the order, we supplied a complete mechanical treatment system, including:
- step screen RSK 0506 with 3 mm bar spacing,
- screw compacting press SCP 1007,
- screw conveyor.
The system was fully integrated – all devices are operated via a common control cabinet.
Technological advantages of ESMIL Step Screens
- Self-cleaning filtering surface design – the movement of lamellas relative to each other eliminates the need for additional cleaning mechanisms such as brushes or water washing systems.
- Narrow bar spacing and filtration through the “carpet” of lifted screenings significantly increase the efficiency of fine solids retention.
- Bar spacing reduced to 1 mm directly above the channel prevents solids from falling back into the wastewater flow.
- Screen lamellas made of 2–3 mm thick sheet metal ensure high throughput capacity.
- Flexible installation in channels of various dimensions, using dedicated covers to close free spaces.
- Enclosed housing minimizes the emission of unpleasant odors into the environment.
- Aeration system in the lower part of the screen prevents the accumulation of solids beneath the lamellas.
- Simple, well-thought-out design provides easy access to all key components.
Two years of stable operation of ESMIL equipment at the Mónosbél WWTP
In Mónosbél, ESMIL equipment operates under particularly demanding conditions – the mechanical stage of wastewater treatment takes place entirely outdoors, without the protection of a building. To ensure full functionality in a variable climate, the ESMIL production team equipped the installation with a special heating system to protect it against low temperatures.
More than two years of continuous operation are the best proof that ESMIL technology also performs reliably in challenging environments.

The project in Mónosbél is another investment implemented by Esmil Group within the framework of the EU Cohesion Programme in Hungary.
