Our production facility has just completed work on an order for four truly large mechanical screens for the Municipal Utility Company “Vinnytsia Oblvodokanal” in Ukraine. This project is a clear example of ESMIL’s readiness to take on engineering challenges and its position among the few manufacturers capable of delivering solutions of such large dimensions – the order included two back-raked screens over 4 meters high and two bar screens exceeding 3.5 meters in height.
Project Implementation in Line with World Bank Guidelines
The purchase of the screens was financed by the World Bank as part of a program supporting the reconstruction of housing and critical infrastructure in Ukraine. Each piece of equipment had to meet strictly defined technical specifications and comply with international standards for quality, safety, and operational durability.
ESMIL mechanical screens fully met these requirements and successfully passed all stages of both formal and technical verification. As a result, they were approved as a suitable solution for a project of such strategic importance.
Mechanical Wastewater Treatment – The Foundation of a Stable Technological Process
Mechanical screens are a key element of the wastewater treatment process – they are responsible for capturing solid contaminants before the wastewater is directed to subsequent technological stages. In municipal wastewater treatment plants, one of the main operational challenges is fibrous materials such as rags, tissues, or textiles that enter the sewage system. If not effectively removed at an early stage, they can wrap around pump impellers, cause blockages and ultimately lead to failures and costly maintenance downtimes.
That is why the proper selection of mechanical screens is crucial for maintaining the continuity and safety of the entire treatment process.
ESMIL Equipment Delivered as Part of the Project
The order for the Municipal Utility Company “Vinnytsia Oblvodokanal” included four mechanical screens: two back-raked screens and two bar screens, each adapted to the operating conditions and technological requirements of a pumping station with a design capacity of up to 4,000 m³/h.
RP 2121 Back-Raked Screens
ESMIL’s RP back-raked screens are designed to ensure stable and safe operation in demanding conditions. Their filtration surface consists of a set of bars profiled upward (toward the discharge zone), which effectively reduces the risk of fibrous materials getting jammed.
Additionally, the rake mechanism is positioned behind the filtration surface, meaning it only comes into contact with pre-treated wastewater. This configuration significantly reduces the risk of fouling and simplifies maintenance.
RKE 1118 Bar Screens
RKE bar screens are characterized by very high hydraulic capacity, thanks to a specially shaped water-drop profile screen that minimizes hydraulic resistance. An added benefit is their easy and convenient maintenance – the equipment can be serviced without shutting down the wastewater treatment process, ensuring operational continuity and reliability.
Summary
The project carried out for the Municipal Utility Company “Vinnytsia Oblvodokanal” confirms our expertise in designing and delivering equipment with non-standard dimensions that meet strict quality and technical requirements.
ESMIL is among a select group of manufacturers offering mechanical screens of such large scale – our product range includes models up to 30 meters in height and up to 4 meters in width. This scale allows us to flexibly adapt our technologies to the specific operating conditions and needs of individual facilities.
Our equipment consistently passes even the most demanding quality and compliance tests, as demonstrated by successful verification in projects financed by institutions such as the World Bank.
That is precisely why we can confidently offer solutions that effectively support the development and safety of water and wastewater infrastructure – regardless of project size or the complexity of the challenges involved.
