Similar to the case of the facility in Zhytomyr, the Khmelnytsky wastewater treatment plant faced the challenge of increased load due to internal displacement caused by the Russian aggression in Ukraine. Outdated technologies and equipment were unable to meet the new requirements, and the limited financial resources of the water utility prevented the purchase of modern solutions. In 2023, with the support of the International Organization for Migration, which facilitated the purchase of five RP Esmil back-raked screens, the situation at the plant improved.
Pumping stations of the Khmelnytsky wastewater treatment plant process both municipal and industrial wastewater. They are the first line of defense, responsible for capturing difficult solid contaminants such as diapers, fabrics, plastic bags, and hygiene products – only after preliminary treatment do the wastewater enter the pressure collectors and then the treatment plant itself. Therefore, the modernization of outdated pumping stations was a necessity.
The implementation of modern RP Esmil back-raked screens has significantly improved the effectiveness of this stage, impacting the overall efficiency of the entire wastewater treatment plant. Each screen was equipped with its own control cabinet and a complete set of components necessary for installation. The installation, commissioning, and configuration of the devices were carried out by Eko Invest, a company belonging to the Esmil Group.
After nearly two years of intensive operation of our devices at the city’s pumping stations, the authorities of the Khmelnytsky wastewater treatment plant shared their feedback with us. Employees of the Khmelnytsky wastewater treatment plant have described the Esmil RP back-raked screens as effective and reliable – the devices handle solid waste retention excellently, effortlessly removing all contaminants from the filter cloth, even under varying flow conditions and increased contaminant levels.
Additionally, in their opinion, they highlighted the extremely simple operation of the screens – the design allows easy access to all key components, facilitating maintenance. Furthermore, they feature a modern security system that protects against structural deformation and chain breakage in case of rake jamming, as well as an improved control system for the operation of the device.
Another key aspect that was appreciated by the employees of the wastewater treatment plant was the professional support provided by the specialists from Eko Invest (Esmil Group). They fully supervised the entire installation and configuration process of the devices, ensuring their proper operation. Additionally, they conducted comprehensive training for the plant staff, providing them with the necessary knowledge and skills to operate the new equipment.
