Industry: Automotive, industrial wastewater treatment
Location: Poland
Technology: JD-1000 Roller Press (Esmil)
Implementation date: 2024
Challenge: Difficult sludge from painting line and phosphating processes
In automotive industry facilities, some of the most demanding wastewater sludges are generated – those from flotation of wastewater from painting lines and metal phosphating processes. These sludges are characterized by:
- High content of mineral substances,
- Irregular structure,
- Significant abrasiveness.
Typical dewatering technologies often fail under these conditions, leading to frequent breakdowns and low process efficiency. This was also the case for this facility – during the search for an optimal solution, the plant conducted tests with various types of equipment, but all of them became clogged, which prevented them from functioning properly and failed to meet the required process parameters.
Solution: JD roller press – technology resistant to everything
In response to the above challenges, a JD-1000 roller press from Esmil was delivered and commissioned for one of the leading automotive industry companies in Poland. The device was specifically designed to handle difficult sludges and, from the moment it was started up, it has provided:
- Continuous operation,
- High-quality dewatering,
- Resistance to wear and clogging,
- Minimal maintenance requirements.
The delivery and integration of the system were carried out in cooperation with a renowned technology partner – a long-time Esmil client specializing in solutions for the water and wastewater industry.
System design parameters
- DS content in feed: ~5%
- Hydraulic capacity: 1.8 – 2 m³/h
- Dewatering capacity: 90 – 100 kg dry matter/h
- Expected dry solids content in cake: ≥ 20%
Why choose JD technology?
- Efficient dewatering of sludges with a concentration from 0.5% to 7%
- Proven performance with high mineral content (up to 60%)
- High resistance to wear and clogging
- Low energy consumption and low operating costs
- Up to 6–10 times reduction in sludge volume
Although JD technology is relatively new in Europe, it is the standard for sludge dewatering in the automotive industry in Japan – it has been installed in over 20 Japanese automotive factories.
Summary
The implementation project of the JD-1000 roller press confirms that effective dewatering of even the most challenging industrial sludges is possible – with the use of properly selected technology and a technology partner with experience.
