ESMIL ZGR-15 Radial Scraper at the VIRESOL Wastewater Treatment Plant
VIRESOL Ltd. operates one of the most advanced wheat processing facilities in Central and Eastern Europe. Located in Visonta, Hungary, the plant runs continuously and operates its own industrial wastewater treatment plant with a treatment capacity of approximately 2,800 m³/day.
Because the facility operates around the clock, the reliable performance of every element of the treatment infrastructure is essential. This includes the secondary clarifiers, whose proper operation directly affects sedimentation efficiency and the stability of the entire wastewater treatment process.
More Than Seven Years of Continuous Operation in a Radial Clarifier
In 2018, an ESMIL ZGR-15 peripheral-drive radial scraper was commissioned in a radial clarifier with a diameter of 15 metres. The unit is responsible for the continuous removal of settled sludge from the bottom of the tank, ensuring proper operating conditions within the secondary clarifier.
Since commissioning, the scraper has continuously supported the treatment of industrial wastewater generated by the production process. Over more than seven years of operation, maintenance activities have been limited to routine servicing and the replacement of minor wear parts, such as brush used to clean the track for the trolley.
Scheduled Inspection After Years of Service
Recently, together with our Hungarian partner, Ekoszvít Center Kft., we carried out a scheduled inspection of the unit.
The scope of work included:
- refurbishment of the scraper structure
- replacement of the bridge carriage guide wheels
- adjustment of operating parameters
The inspection was preventive in nature and formed part of a standard maintenance programme intended to prepare the equipment for many more years of operation.
According to the operators at VIRESOL Ltd., the key advantages of the sludge scraper remain its stable operation and low maintenance requirements. In a facility operating 24/7, these factors have a direct impact on process continuity and the efficient operation of the entire plant.
What Contributes to the Long Service Life of ESMIL Radial Scrapers?
Long-term equipment performance depends on many factors, but one of the most important is matching the solution to the specific application.
Every ESMIL scraper is individually designed with consideration for tank geometry, process parameters and actual operating conditions at the site.
Equally important is the selection of materials and components. ESMIL radial scraper structures are manufactured from AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel, while all major components are selected with long-term operation in demanding wastewater environments in mind.
