In April 2020, Esmil Group signed a contract for the supply of a mechanical wastewater treatment complex consisting of three RSK-1018 step screens, a screw conveyor and a waste compacting press for municipal treatment facilities in Kropyvnytskyi, Ukraine.

The wastewater treatment plants in Kropyvnytskyi are part of the Regional Public Utility Production Facility “Dnipro-Kyrovohrad”. Their reconstruction began in 2020 and was due to the fact that outdated equipment and technologies could not cope with modern requirements for wastewater treatment. The construction of the first stage of the WWTP with a capacity of 30,000 m3/day was completed back in 1973, and since then, not only has the quantity of effluents changed significantly, but also their qualitative composition. At the time of the start of reconstruction, the enterprise was among the top 100 largest environmental pollutants in Ukraine, and the wastewater treatment facilities were overloaded by 1.5 times.

Funds from the World Bank were attracted to finance the project, and the modernization process itself was divided into two stages. As part of the first stage of the reconstruction in 2020, primary clarifiers were modernized, one of the clarifiers was converted into a dephosphorization reactor to carry out the tasks of the preliminary phosphate removal, and the aeration tanks were also renovated. In 2021, the reconstruction of the mechanical wastewater treatment facility began.

ESMIL Group was selected as a supplier of technological equipment for mechanical wastewater treatment. For over 25 years, the company has been producing a wide range of equipment for various stages of wastewater treatment, and during this time it has gained a reputation as a reliable and responsible supplier of high-performance equipment throughout the world. ESMIL equipment is successfully operating in the EU, USA, Israel, CIS – in more than 35 countries of the world. We are pleased to offer Ukrainian water and sanitation authorities equipment of domestic design, which is not only on a par with the foreign equivalents but is often more reliable and efficient in terms of performance.

For the wastewater treatment facilities in Kropyvnytskyi, we proposed a complex of mechanical wastewater treatment based on ESMIL RSK step screens. This type of screen is designed for fine wastewater treatment (the minimum opening width is only 3 mm) and is distinguished by high capacity and effective extraction of small floating, inorganic and fibrous contaminants.

Among other screens for fine treatment, the ESMIL RSK step screens are characterized by the following advantages:

  • small width of the openings and the filtration of the flow by the “carpet” of the raised waste significantly increases the efficiency of wastewater treatment;
  • working plates are cleaned independently without the use of auxiliary mechanisms, brushes or rinsing with water;
  • a gap in the area above the channel reduced to 1 mm excludes the fall of waste back into the channel;
  • low amenability to abrasive contaminants (sand, gravel);
  • a perforated pipe installed at the bottom of the screen is used to stir up deposits that can accumulate at the bottom, and thereby helps to eliminate them;
  • reliable and durable design – the screens are made of AISI 304 or AISI 316 stainless steel, and also undergo additional anti-corrosion treatment (bath etching and passivation with special means).EKOTON Step Screen RSK

The complex also includes a screw conveyor with a unique one-piece axleless screw, which ensures efficient transporting, prevents clogging and reduces the load on the drive. The conveyor transports the waste retained on the screens to a screw compacting press, which compresses the waste, reducing its volume by an average of 6-7 times (accordingly, the costs of transporting the retained waste to storage sites are also reduced).

All equipment is combined into a single complex and automated using the Esmil intelligent control system. This solution allows the reduction of energy consumption and the number of working hours of the service personnel.

According to the schedule, the project should be completed in the 2nd half of 2021. It is expected that after the completion of the reconstruction, the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant will increase to 35-40,000 m3/day, and the quality of treatment will reach the indicators established by the current legislation.
